Why become a member?

Legislative

OSCA is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Government Services – Consumer Protection Branch as an authority on the collection industry. OSCA is relied upon to provide feedback on proposed legislation to the Ministry and its membership. In addition, OSCA provides updates on potential changes to legislation across Canada that may impact the industry or its creditors.

OSCA has been instrumental in creating positive impact, on behalf of our industry, including:

- Investing over $20,000 on behalf of its membership to argue that our services were GST applicable to clients within the Financial Services industries. OSCA was successful in this action, which has benefited all agencies Canada through its direct outcome and legal precedence.

- Successfully lobbying the Ministry to re-institute Remembrance Day and Easter Monday as collection days in Ontario

- The ongoing process of attempting to receive an exemption through the CRTC to remove collection agencies from recent CRTC legislation surrounding ADAD.

Recognition

Clients across industries and across the country recognize OSCA members as reputable organizations that adhere to an industry code of ethics.

Events

OSCA presents an annual AGM for its members, coordinating a two day session of meetings on topics that affect our industry. It also presents an excellent opportunity networking with their peers.

Vendors attending these events bring forward the latest in technology and process developments in our industry. Motivational and human resource specialists bring ideas on employee acquisition and retention strategies that will help all organizations.
